Take On Me by a-ha

An awesome mix of animation and live action. It's pretty mind-blowing how the glimpses of animation and live action synchronize perfectly. That's some editing talent. And hey, who doesn't love a great 80s pop song?

Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

Okay, I know I'm kinda biased when it comes to mother monster, but this is a seriously fantastic music video. From it's newly famed dance moves and outrageous outfits, "Bad Romance" makes everyone want to be a little monstah.

Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win by Beastie Boys

Remember that Nickelodeon show "Action League Now"? This is pretty much that show but in a music video form. It's so funny, and also super clever. Maybe cuz Spike Jonze directed it... hmmmmm

Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes

Another completely mind-blowing music video. Plus this is one of my favorite songs ever, and one of my fave bands! This would be one seriously badass screensaver.

Muppet Show Theme Song by OK Go

Omygawd. I can't help myself. I love OK Go and the Muppets dearly and I truly loved this video. If u love either you'll love this too.

Short Skirt/Long Jacket  by Cake

Talk about market research. While it may seem like it's just about interviews with random people, this video really shows how music is ultimately subjective, like all forms of art. I also thought some of the responses and reactions were super funny.

don't you... forget about me

So I haven't been the greatest of bloggers.... but don't worry. I am going to be the best blogger of all time. Kind of.
I have decided to post at least one blog entry (whether it's possible or not) every single week.
Prepare for awesomeness.

Anyways, I thought I ought to tell you the upcoming fall trends. Heads up, it's all about luxury.

Okay, so the first trend to look out for this fall is fur. Lots and lots of fur. If you're not a fan of killing animals for fashion, there are plenty of fantastic fake fur pieces out on the market. Also, play with fun colored furs, like the ones in Gucci's fall ready to wear collection.

Gold jewelry is also a must for autumn. Bangles, hoops, necklaces, anything. In general, you want to make a statement with jewelry this fall/winter.

Whether it's lip color or a shade of fabric, wine is this season's "it" color. However, don't just buy an entire wardrobe in these deep red shades. Instead, try on these colored pieces to see which shade will look best on your skin tone, which also applies to wine colored lipstick.

Bad ass beauties rejoice, because leather is making an appearance on the runways for fall 2011. Again, if you'd rather wear fake leather, be my guest.

Color blocking is super hot this fashion season. The thing is it doesn't have to be a bold block pattern like a Mondrian artwork, but you can work this pattern subtly as well.

Love em or hate em, polka dots are back in style. There are plenty of ways to play with this fun print, but remember that a little goes a long way. Unless you really like polka dots a lot. Then go for it. :)

Are diamonds really a girl's best friend? Nope, but a favorite pair of pumps just might be. These sky-high heels have graced the runway this fall, making those super tall models even taller.

i'm baaaaaaa-aaaaaaaack

Hi :)

So I've been away to an amazing art camp called CSSSA (California State Summer School of the Arts) for the past 4 weeks, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. There, I studied animation at CalArts, which has completely opened my eyes as to what I may pursue as a career. I've become a much more outgoing person, as well as a crazier artist. Here's some photos I took:

I absolutely loved the creative, insanely artistic people I was surrounded by at CSSSA. I loved meeting students in other departments, which were music, film, theater, visual arts, dance, and creative writing. This is a picture from "the sublevel" of CalArts, which is an entire floor of art-covered walls. 

I loved going to the sublevel and seeing how it was constantly being painted over by someone else. Unfortunately, I didn't paint / draw something in the sublevel, but many of my friends did. I should have :-/

One of my friends painted this. I met a lot of fellow Whovians. It was magical.

There were several field trips offered by CSSSA, including a trip to Disneyland. We also saw Les Miserables and went to the Getty Museum.

The animation department went to Olvera Street in LA to draw everything we could. We drew tourists, street vendors, and the awesome architecture. I found this amazing Last Supper / Scarface painting for sale, but I stopped myself from buying it. I should have bought it.

cute little drawings

I've been painting with watercolor a lot recently. Here are my drawings:

A McQueen "lobster claw" shoe. Alexander McQueen is a huge inspiration to me as an artist. He is by far my favorite designer, and always will be!

Mother Monster! This is from Lady Gaga's famous music video for "Telephone." 

Katy Perry! I love her cute blue hair.

Another McQueen garment. This is a striped red and blue jacket that debuted a couple years ago. 

Nickiiiii Minajjjj. One of the few female rappers around.

Even though I don't really like her music, I love Rihanna's red hair and Barbados roots. 

Notice something about all these inspirations? They all have stayed true to themselves and been quite unique in the world of fashion and pop culture. ;)

nerd capital of the world

I am super upset. In early march or may or whatever, the ticket sales for Comic Con went on sale and instantly sold out. I wasn't near a computer to buy tickets at the time, so I didn't get any tickets. I ALWAYS go to Comic Con. Siiiggghhhhh... Since I'm not going this year, I thought I should make a list of the things I will miss dearly.

Cosplay

I will miss the wonderful cosplayers. What is cosplay, you say? Cosplay is when you dress up as a character from a book, movie, video game, etc. and then act like him/her while you're in costume. There are thousands of cosplayers at Comic Con that love getting their pictures taken, so why not pose with Superman? Or maybe gangsta Darth Vader? Who knows who you'll meet at that extraordinary convention.

Celebrities

Yep, that's Stan Lee.... Celebrities are a big part of the Comic Con experience. They provide glamour (and even more insanity) to the annual event in San Diego. Just last year I met the cast of Being Human and the talented actor Zachary Quinto. The year before, I saw the cast of Glee, Heroes, and the icon Stan Lee himself at a few different panels. Panels are informational sessions where casts of movie/shows, writers, comic book artists, etc. talk about upcoming movies, books, and numerous other projects. The audience usually gets to ask questions, which can be very entertaining, especially if an enthusiastic fan professes their love to a celebrity, or some other attendee asks a very specific question about episode 12 of season 4 of Battlestar Galactica.

Masquerade
This make look like just some more cosplayers, but they are part of an event called the Masquerade. This is when a large number of brave cosplayers perform a short skit in front of an audience and are then judged on their costuming craftsmanship by an esteemed panel of costume professionals. I only went once to this fantastic event, and I nearly died... of awesomeness. Even though it goes on well past 12am, I absolutely loved seeing the costume creators and they're usually humorous skits. Some outfits were bad, some were good, and some were impeccably made.



Booths
If you've ever gone to Comic Con, you would know that you get bags and bags full of free stuff. Posters, keychains, postcards, but usually fliers. I remember one time I got a little container of hand sanitizer that was given out to promote the movie Zombieland, and in another instance my friend (who was also in the Pokemon video) and I got to show our superhero strength by lifting a  mini van for the television show No Ordinary Family. Plus, I always sell my Comic Con swag on eBay, which usually proves to be very profitable.



Artists
Because I love to draw and paint all the time, I always make my way over to the artist section on the main floor of Comic Con. There, you can meet comic book artists, illustrators, and other very talented individuals. Some of the most unique artists can be found there. Who knows, maybe I'll get a booth there someday!



Latest and Greatest
This goes hand in hand with the booths, but I feel this deserves it's own section. At Comic Con, you will find the "latest and greatest" in every possible realm of nerdom. For example, last time I went to the convention, I got to try the video game Just Dance 2 before it went on the market. While this may just seem like a way for businesses to bring they're products to Comic Con attendees (and that applies to the whole event), it really is so much fun to see the "latest and greatest" stuff before everyone else does. The picture above shows the booth for The Walking Dead, in which you could take pictures with grotesque zombies. Cool, eh?

Well there's what I'm going to miss about Comic Con. If you go, however, I am forever jealous of you. Please feel free to post what you like most about the annual "nerd prom" in sunny San Diego.

gotta catch em all

When I was about 4 years old, I became obsessed with Pokemon. I even had my mom memorize all 151 names and pictures that I had displayed on a poster in my room. However, I grew out of that faze of nerdom and went on to play Neopets and watch Heroes, which I also later grew out of. Now I design cosplay costumes and sulk about not going to Comic Con. (sigh)
Anyways, my friend and I decided to relive our love of Pokemon by creating an awesome video that was greatly inspired by this wonderful YouTube video:

Recently, I've been fascinated with alternative/electronic/classical groups. "What the Gucci does that mean?" you may ask. Imagine an electronic group covering classical music, or an orchestra covering alternative tunes, or a rock band covering electronic classical music. Since I can't seem to explain the awesomeness in words, here are some songs:

Ebla -- E.S. Posthumus

Holy guacamole. Seriously, the music of E.S. Posthumus is the type of epic music that would make any action movie/video game fanatic happy to die to. It is the epitome of monumental action flick soundtrack music. In fact, their music has been used in pretty much every action/adventure movie, including Avatar, The Matrix, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Other cool songs by them: Lepcis Magna and Unstoppable.

Time is Running Out (Muse)-- The Section Quartet

This awesome song was originally created by Muse, who I also love dearly. Honestly, this song is even more quirky, yet beautiful when performed classically. I guess I just love the drama and artistry of Muse and The Section Quartet. :) Other amazing songs by them: Such Great Heights (The Postal Service) and Black Hole Sun (Soundgarden).

Music for a Found Harmonium -- Patrick Street

Whether this song is done by Patrick Street or Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Music for a Found Harmonium is a fantastic tune. It's folksy/familiar sound always makes me think of my childhood when I would run around and pretend I was a creature of some sort. Anyways, you should totally check out both versions, and you might recognize the song from Napoleon Dynamite. Another wonderful song by Penguin Cafe Orchestra: Perpetuum Mobile.

Epoca -- Gotan Project

Gotan Project has a totally different take on the electronic/classical genre by incorporating Latin sounds and familiar tunes. Their songs are also quite popular in Hollywood, and have been featured in such movies and TV shows as Ocean's Twelve, So You Think You Can Dance,Chuck and Top Gear. They're also the perfect songs to tango too! Other great songs by them: Mi Confesion and Diferente.

Born This Way (Lady Gaga) -- Aston

If you ever wonder what any of your favorite pop songs sound like all instrumental, you should definitely check out Aston. They have done Telephone (Lady Gaga), Rude Boy (Rihanna), and even Toxic (Britney Spears). It's simply mesmerizing to listen to them.Other songs by Aston: Viva La Vida (Coldplay), Only Girl (Rihanna), E.T. (Katy Perry), and  Bulletproof (La Roux).
